A confrontation on the Loreto-San Javier road, Baja California Sur, on Monday, May 5, left at least three criminals dead and one injured. The confrontation occurred when the Navy was fired upon while trying to stop a vehicle in the area.

Governor Víctor Castro confirmed the incident, mentioning that it involved a car that refused to stop and opened fire on the police. This action triggered the aggression that resulted in the deaths of the criminals.

Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security, reported that three long guns, two handguns, and a tactical vest were seized on site. Despite efforts, no arrests were made during the operation.

The increase in violence in Baja California Sur has been significant in recent months, mainly due to alleged confrontations between criminal groups. This situation has recently led the United States Embassy in Mexico to issue a Security Alert for its citizens due to the insecurity in the region.

In a previous operation in the municipality of Mulegé, seven individuals, allegedly linked to the Pacific Cartel, were arrested with weapons, drugs, and tactical equipment. This event adds to a series of violent incidents that have occurred in the area, raising concerns both locally and internationally.
