New Training Center Opens in Mexico's Port Industry

The ASTOM Training Center in Manzanillo aims to equip skilled labor for the growing port industry demands in Mexico, focusing on safety and professional training.

The Manzanillo Terminals and Operators Association has opened the ASTOM Training Center, the first entity dedicated to academic preparation in the national port system in Mexico. The main goal of this center is to train highly qualified labor to meet the growing need for personnel in the country's port industry.

Through the ASTOM Training Center, specialized training in terminal and port facility safety will be provided to transporters, contractors, suppliers, and brokers in the sector. Participants at the center will develop skills in leadership, communication, motivation, team management, and problem-solving in the workplace to foster a safe and productive work environment.

Additionally, a diploma in Safety and Hygiene and a course on Terminal Safety are planned to be offered to employees and the general public in response to the growing demand in port activity in Mexico. The center's focus will be on developing practical competencies to solve real problems, through the analysis of practical cases and reflection on concrete experiences that connect theory and practice.

The ASTOM Training Center aims to provide quality training to users, employees, and middle management of associated companies, as well as to the general public interested in strengthening their knowledge in port activities. This effort aligns with the expected growth of maritime foreign trade in Mexico and the promotion of nearshoring as a priority initiative for the current administration.

The first course, which started on January 25, is being conducted in collaboration with the University of Colima at the Port of Manzanillo. This collaboration is part of an agreement signed in August between ASTOM and the University of Colima, aimed at promoting joint actions for the academic and professional training of members of both institutions. The current course focuses on Effective Port Supervision and is directed at supervisors and team leaders from associated companies.

In conclusion, the ASTOM Training Center is presented as an important initiative to provide specialized training in safety and other key areas for the port industry in Mexico, thereby contributing to the preparation of a qualified workforce that can meet the demands of the sector.
