Democracy Day: Historic Judicial Elections in Mexico

President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that June 1 will be commemorated as "Democracy Day" in Mexico. On this date, a judicial election will take place where citizens will have the opportunity to choose members of the Judiciary for the first time in the history of the country.

During an event in Manzanillo, Colima, Sheinbaum stressed that the participation of the people is fundamental to saving the Judiciary. She highlighted the importance of voting together to build an honest judicial system that truly serves the interests of the population and the nation.

Sheinbaum explained that, throughout the history of Mexico, the Judiciary has been appointed by a select group of people, which has led to situations of nepotism and corruption. In contrast, the Executive and Legislative branches are elected by popular vote. With the election on June 1, Mexico will become the first country to elect its judges and magistrates through citizens' votes.

The president emphasized that this democratic act will not only mark a milestone in the history of Mexico but will also offer the world an example of participatory democracy. By electing the members of the Judiciary, the goal is to form a Court that truly represents the interests of the population and not just a few, putting an end to corrupt and nepotistic practices of the past in the judicial system.

Sheinbaum called on all Mexicans to participate actively in this election, emphasizing that it is the only way to ensure the creation of a transparent and honest Judiciary that truly serves justice in the country.
