A former secretary of infrastructure in the Mexican state of Colima has been arrested on suspicion of fraud involving over 20 million pesos. He is accused of deceiving an investor in a construction project.

Elements of the Prosecutor's Office and the State Preventive Police executed the arrest warrant. According to the data in the investigation file, in December 2023, the accused, in collusion with another person, allegedly deceived the victim into investing in a housing development located in the municipality of Manzanillo. According to the investigations, the accused concealed the legal reality of the project, which allowed them to obtain an undue economic benefit. The financial damage caused to the victim amounts to 20 million, 513 thousand and 60 pesos. After the events, the ministry continued with the investigations, which made it possible to identify the accused and request the corresponding judicial order. José de Jesús “N” was made available to the judicial authority, which will be in charge of determining his legal situation in the coming days. The FGE of Colima reiterated its commitment to combat impunity, particularly in cases involving former public officials. The Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Colima reported the arrest of José de Jesús “N”, who served as Secretary of Infrastructure and Urban Development during the state administration of José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez. The former official is accused as the probable perpetrator of the crime of fraud. According to the official communiqué, the capture was the result of intelligence work, strategic analysis, and research carried out by specialized personnel from the FGE, in coordination with the Public Security Secretariat (SSP).
