Confrontation in Matamoros Leads to 16 Arrests

In the community of Ciénega de Ceniceros, municipality of Matamoros, Chihuahua, a confrontation occurred between a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel known as 'Los Chapos' and elements of the National Guard. The armed clash resulted in 16 people being detained.

During the shooting, a National Guard officer was injured and was taken to a hospital in Hidalgo del Parral, where he received medical attention and is reported to be out of danger. Another 10 individuals were injured, although it was not specified whether they were members of the security forces or the criminal cell.

The confrontation took place on Wednesday morning, in the south of the state, when armed individuals attacked the authorities, triggering a exchange of gunfire. The area in question is under the influence of various cells of the Sinaloa Cartel, locally known as 'Chapos'.

The National Guard was supported by troops from the Mexican Army, managing to capture 16 people, as well as the seizure of weapons, vehicles, and houses used as hideouts. Among the confiscated arsenal were found 17 long guns, 3 handguns, 20 vests, 8 helmets, 50 magazines, and hundreds of cartridges of various calibers.

Six of the detainees were transferred to the state capital under strict security measures and are in custody at the subdelegation of the Attorney General's Office. Meanwhile, the other ten individuals are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Public Ministry in Hidalgo del Parral.

After the confrontation, units from the Institutional Operations Base were deployed to the area to strengthen security. The injured National Guard officer was taken to the Hospital of Jesús de Hidalgo del Parral, where he is being treated under the protection of personnel from the 32nd Infantry Battalion of the National Guard.
