Matamoros Mayor Clarifies Visa Situation After Routine Check

The mayor of Matamoros, Alberto Granados Favila, categorically denied that the authorities of the United States had revoked his visa, clarifying that the incident on April 19 with the Customs and Border Protection Office in the United States was simply "a routine check." In an interview during the "Sea Festival" at Bagdad Beach, the mayor explained that the inspection he underwent at the border was similar to what any person might experience when crossing into the United States.

"I cross into the United States very often; yesterday I crossed into the United States, it was just a routine check like anyone might encounter," Granados Favila pointed out. Despite being the mayor, he clarified that the situation attracted more attention because of his position, but insisted that there was no rejection of entry or visa withdrawal.

After the inspection of his vehicle, the mayor was able to cross into the United States to do some shopping and then return to Matamoros. When asked if his visa had been revoked, Granados Favila emphatically responded: "No way," explaining that he did not have the document with him at that moment.

The incident occurred around 7:00 PM on Thursday, when the mayor was heading from Matamoros to Brownsville, Texas. After a prolonged interrogation, the U.S. authorities allowed him to return to Mexico, thus contradicting rumors that suggested his visa had been revoked.
