The Government of Mexico City informs about local taxes that must be paid by citizens. One of them is the vehicle registration, regulated at both state and federal levels. According to article 219 of the Fiscal Code of Mexico City for 2025, the payment is 731 pesos. After making this payment, a 100% discount is granted on the vehicle tax for cars valued at less than 250 thousand pesos, including VAT and with the depreciation factor applied.
For property owners, the property tax must be paid mandatorily to the corresponding municipality or locality. Mexico City offers discounts of 8% and 5% for annual advance payments made in January and February. For vulnerable groups and senior citizens aged 59 and over, the bimonthly fee is 65 pesos, with discounts of up to 30% on the property tax depending on the cadastral value and 50% on the water payment, as well as the elimination of 100% of the vehicle tax when paying the registration fee.
Water payment in Mexico City refers to the amount paid by users for consumption of drinking water and sewage and sanitation services provided by the System of Waters of Mexico City (Sacmex). A 50% discount is applied to the fee for property owners belonging to vulnerable groups.
The vehicle tax is a mandatory tax for vehicle owners in Mexico and is applied to guarantee access to water and maintain water infrastructure. A 50% reduction benefit on the bimonthly fee has been established for vulnerable property owners.
The Government grants these benefits to both individuals and non-profit organizations, valid from January 1 to March 31, 2025. To access the discounts, it is required to have no previous vehicle tax debts and to possess a valid circulation card. Tax payments can be made at more than 8,800 payment points, including Treasury kiosks, banks, convenience stores, and department stores. Payments can also be made through the mobile application "Treasury CDMX" or the website of the Secretary of Administration and Finance.
The Government of Mexico City seeks to promote discounts to allow people to stay current with their property tax, water, and vehicle tax payments. These measures aim to support family economies and advocate for responsible fiscal policy. They want to consider the economic and social situation of taxpayers to facilitate compliance with their tax obligations.
