The Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) has launched the 'Garden Mondays' Program in three stores in Mexico City, which will soon expand nationwide. Martí Batres Guadarrama, director general of ISSSTE, highlighted that this initiative aims not only to offer basic and healthy food at competitive prices but also to support Mexican producers by buying directly from them, eliminating intermediaries.
During the program presentation, Batres mentioned: 'There cannot be a complete basic basket if it does not include fruits and vegetables. The program aims to boost the local economy and improve the basic basket of Mexicans.' The director general emphasized that this strategy seeks to support both consumers and producers, recovering the social sense of the Institute.
The program has had a positive impact on sales nationwide, with an increase of 33.63% between September and December 2024. Branches such as 'Ciudadela' and 'Villa Coapa' reported increases of 39% and 63% respectively in their sales. Dunia Ludlow Deloya, director of SuperISSSTE, announced that the program will begin in three branches on January 27 and will expand to other locations in the country in the coming months.
The available products will include a variety of fruits and vegetables such as avocado, garlic, onion, chayote, peppers, tomato, lemon, apple, among others, thus ensuring a diverse and accessible offer for the population. Juan Carlos Cortés Aguilar, project manager of Selecta del Campo, thanked the collaboration in offering natural and quality products to Mexican families.
Francisco Javier Hernández Lugo, manager of the SuperISSSTE 'Villa Coapa' store, acknowledged the positive impact of Batres' actions, indicating that a reality with renewed hope is now being experienced. Among the highlighted prices are avocado at 35 pesos per half kilo, white onion at 22 pesos per kilo, and sour lemon at 24 pesos per kilo. Batres also noted that during more than 100 days of his administration, the supply of stores in the capital was increased from 68.17% to 85.37%.
