New Support Program for Early Childhood in Mexico City

The head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), Mario Delgado, announced that from February 5 to March 28, the Banco del Bienestar cards will be distributed to students to start receiving funds from the Universal Scholarship for Basic Education Rita Cetina. This program will benefit 5.7 million secondary school students across the country along with their families.

The cards will be handed over to the parents, mothers, or guardians of the beneficiaries, granting them a bimonthly payment of one thousand pesos per student. The fundamental purpose of this scholarship is to guarantee the comprehensive development of minors and provide them with a minimum income that contributes to their well-being.

On the other hand, in Mexico City, a new program called 'Desde la cuna' is being implemented, aimed at children from 0 to 3 years old with the goal of providing economic support from early childhood. This project, presented by Clara Brugada in November 2024, seeks to accompany minors in their early years of life, a crucial stage for their human development.

The 'Desde la cuna' program includes various actions such as nutritional monitoring, metabolic and auditory screening, access to Child Care and Development Centers, as well as the creation of Schools for Good Parenting. It focuses on preventing problems like malnutrition and aims to benefit more than 265,000 boys and girls in Mexico's capital.

To be part of this program in Mexico City, the requirements are to be a mother, father, or guardian of a child, fill out the corresponding application, live in CDMX, not receive other government support, present documents such as the child's birth certificate, vaccination record, official identification, and proof of address, among others.

The distribution of the Universal Scholarship for Basic Education Rita Cetina cards will begin in 2025, initially benefiting secondary school students with a bimonthly amount of one thousand nine hundred pesos. Subsequently, the program will extend to primary and preschool students, thus continuing to support education in Mexico.
