The iconic food business Tacos Ruben’s, located in Mexico City, has announced its permanent closure. This establishment, part of the city's culinary history, was a family taquería in the Escandon neighborhood that stood out in the Netflix show "Taco Chronicles" in an episode dedicated to suadero.
In a message posted on social media, Tacos Ruben’s shared the sad news of its closure, stating that, despite offering a variety of dishes such as longaniza, tripa, campechanos, cabeza, maciza, ojo, cachete, surtida, lengua, and sesos, it was the suadero that gave them renown. The development of a special marinade for the suadero was key to its popularity both locally and internationally.
The family that owns Tacos Ruben’s expressed that, after 20 years of effort, dedication, and love for their work, they were forced to close due to extortion and threats that jeopardized their safety. Despite the difficulty of the decision, they thanked their customers for being part of their community and family over the years.
