Mexico City Increases Public Transport Fares

The Government of Mexico City and transporters have agreed to increase the fare for route and corridor transport by 1.50 pesos. Both concessionaires and permit holders must permanently display the authorized fare in visible places on their vehicles, terminals, and bases; otherwise, “the update will have no effect whatsoever.” The capital government indicated that to guarantee users an improvement in transportation, transporters have committed to meeting the following conditions:

• They must carry a valid and visible Type “C” driver's license, remove tinted windows, have a valid civil liability insurance policy, and display the license plate on the vehicle's color scheme.

• Carry out periodic inspections of lights, doors, handrails, tires, and brakes, as well as ensure the correct functioning of the safety devices with which the unit is equipped (cameras, emergency buttons, and GPS).

• Drivers must wear a uniform consisting of dark pants and a white shirt, keep the units in optimal conditions of cleanliness, and participate in training programs for route operators.
