Mexico City Warns of Moving Company Scams

Mexico City's authorities warn of fake moving companies advertising on social media. They offer low prices, demand advance payments, and use forged documents. Citizens are advised to verify companies and report suspicious activities.

Mexico City Warns of Moving Company Scams

The Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Mexico City, through its Cyber Police Unit, has alerted the public about scams committed by fake moving companies advertised on social media and digital platforms. In a statement, the agency reported that cybercriminals use fake profiles, low prices, and forged documents to deceive users looking to hire relocation services. Scammers employ professional logos, images of branded trucks, and posts that appear formal and customer-backed. The SSC stated that it works permanently on the detection and prevention of cybercrimes. Complaints can be filed through the Mi PolicĂa app, official social media, or the phone number 55 5242 5100. The scammers' goal is to build trust and request advance deposits to 'secure the service'. An example of this modus operandi is when the supposed provider offers a below-average cost, asks for a prepayment, and sends fake documents.
