Mexico City Launches Bachetón Program for Road Repairs

In various neighborhoods and primary roads in Mexico City, the Bachetón program will be implemented in the coming months, aiming to fill potholes as part of a joint initiative with four municipalities. This program seeks to achieve a better condition of the roads and streets in the Mexican capital.

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced an investment of 4 billion pesos in the Federal Road Conservation Program, known as Bachetón, which aims to repair potholes on 44,600 kilometers of roads across Mexico. Although the news is encouraging, questions arise regarding the source of this investment.

Sheinbaum mentioned that part of the resources comes from savings left by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador. It is expected that this program will generate 8,500 jobs related to pothole filling, leveling, and cleaning of ditches in drainage works. Additionally, support from the Secretariat of National Defense will be available in the southeast of the country, especially in areas affected by the construction of the Maya Train.

The National Association of Bus, Truck, and Tractor Truck Producers (Anpact) expressed its support for the improvement of road infrastructure, hoping that these actions will benefit national entities and transport companies. The head of the capital government, Clara Brugada Molina, reported that more than 57,000 potholes have been identified in Mexico City, reinforcing the need for this road repair program.

The Bachetón initiative is positively received by the community, which long to see the roads free of potholes to ensure the safety of drivers and transporters. It is hoped that these actions will not remain just promises and that effective repair of the affected roads in the country will be achieved.
