The National Gas Union announced that they will strike next Friday in the metropolitan area of Mexico City, due to the lack of operational margin in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas distribution plants. This could affect the supply for the civilian population, especially during the winter season.
In a statement, the gas workers expressed their concern over the imminent operational shutdown that will lead them to cease their activities. Three years ago, former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recognized the importance of this union to ensure adequate gas supply to the population.
The gas workers received guarantees to carry out their activities through a document from the Sub-Secretariat of Hydrocarbons. However, the current situation concerns them, especially within the framework of the National Energy Plan presented by Energy Secretary Luz Elena González.
Adrián Rodríguez, a representative of the union, expressed his concern over the potential shortage in the metropolitan area of Mexico City and stated his intention to engage in dialogue with SENER representatives to find solutions. The National Gas Union, representing about 8,000 units in the metropolitan area, impacts approximately 16,000 families that depend on this activity.
Before the implementation of maximum prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas, commission agents used to earn between 3 and 4 pesos per liter sold. However, with the maximum prices, their earnings have been reduced to as low as 20 cents per liter.
