The Chinese company Yutong, known for its production of new energy buses and its research in autonomous vehicles, began its first road tests in 2015 in China. It later expanded to Latin America, including countries like Chile and Mexico, obtaining bids for public transport buses in the Mexican capital. In 2021, it received the Busworld Design Label and Ecology Label award for its commitment to creating sustainable buses and continued its expansion into the Middle East, planning a factory in Qatar.

In Mexico, Yutong started operations in 2018, selling nearly 800 buses intended for public transport over the last six years, as well as 190,000 new energy units in the country. Currently, it has three distribution warehouses housing nearly 30 million spare parts in total.

Among the vehicle models introduced in Mexico City are the E18, used on Line 3 of the Metrobús; the ZK5120C, a hybrid trolleybus using electricity and gasoline; the ZK5180C, a smaller trolleybus; and the E12 Pro, acquired by the RTP for general service. These buses have helped reduce pollutant emissions and served for emergencies during metro outages.

Although Yutong's history in Mexico is recent, the company has managed to establish itself in the public transport market and is expected to continue growing with the mobility proposals put forth by the head of Government, Clara Brugada. Yutong's arrival in the country has coincided with the rise of Chinese vehicles globally, competing with major companies like Tesla.

Yutong is owned by the Yutong Group, chaired by Tang Yuxiang, a Chinese businessman and politician. Under his leadership, the company has excelled in exporting electric buses globally, being recognized for its work both in China and abroad. The company was founded in 1963 and has experienced significant growth, manufacturing and distributing its own units and expanding into international markets.

Currently, Yutong has three distribution warehouses in Mexico, located in the Iztapalapa borough, the State of Mexico, and Guadalajara, Jalisco. Its commitment to innovation and sustainability has positioned it as one of the leading companies in the global public transport sector.
