
The Lion King musical returns to Mexico City after 10 years of absence to celebrate its 27 years of continuous performances on Broadway. The show, considered one of the most popular worldwide, will inaugurate its new season on March 20 in the Mexican capital.
Julieta González, producer in Mexico, mentioned: "Having The Lion King back in our country is the result of the great alliance we've maintained for over 25 years with Disney Theatrical Group." For his part, Morris Gilbert, also a producer, expressed his honor in presenting the musical again in Mexico City. Gilbert has participated in international productions of The Lion King in Madrid and the UK.
In the musical cast, Scar will be played by Carlos Quezada, originally from Guadalajara. Mufasa will be represented by Pisano, known for being the official voice in Mexico and Latin America of iconic characters such as Scar in the live-action The Lion King.
The performances of The Lion King in Mexico City will be available from March 20 to June 29 at the Teatro Telcel, located next to the Soumaya Museum. Presentation schedules include performances on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Ariel Bonilla, a graduate of the William Esper Acting Conservatory in New York, will play Zazu in the show. Sergio Carranza will bring Pumba to life in this iconic musical. Rafiki will be portrayed by Nokulunga, originally from South Africa.
During a press conference, some details of the costumes designed by Julie Taymor, the first woman to win a Tony Award for 'Best Director of a Musical,' were presented. The cast of The Lion King in Mexico was selected after a process of more than 3,500 auditions and consists of artists such as Pierre Louis, who will portray Simba.
