The Canine Transfer Center (CTC) of the Mexico City Metro is offering traffic violators and those in violation of the Civic Culture Law a new opportunity. Now, those who must complete community service due to photo traffic tickets or other sanctions can do so at the Metro's rescued dog shelter.
Since December 23, 228 people have visited the Canine Transfer Center, located near the El Rosario station in the Azcapotzalco borough. People fulfilling community service tasks perform cleaning duties in the areas where the 55 rescued dogs are located, as well as walking the dogs in the center.
Activities are carried out in coordination with the staff of the Executive Directorate of Civic Justice of the Legal Counsel. This program is part of the restorative and peace-building actions promoted by the Government of Mexico City, led by Clara Brugada.
Violators can perform these duties at the Metro dog shelter from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM or from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, and it may soon be extended to Saturdays and Sundays. In addition to fulfilling their sanction, the initiative also aims to promote the adoption of rescued dogs or increase food donations for them.
