In Mexico City, the emo march is being organized for next Saturday, March 15, marking the return after 17 years since the confrontations with punks at the Glorieta de Insurgentes. Unlike previous incidents in 2007, this time it is expected to be peaceful, without conflicts with other groups such as punks or hare krishnas.
The mobilization has generated interest on social media, where hundreds of people have confirmed their attendance, although it has not been specified which group or collective is behind the initiative. The objective of the march is not to raise demands but to commemorate the emo movement and reiterate its presence.
The emo march is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, departing from the Palace of Fine Arts to the Glorieta de Insurgentes, in the Cuauhtémoc borough. The route is expected to affect roads such as Eje Central, Chapultepec, and the Historic Center, among others.
So far, no operational measures have been announced by the Secretariat of Citizen Security for the emo march, so alternative routes are suggested to avoid traffic in areas such as Insurgentes, Balderas, or Paseo de la Reforma during that afternoon.
The background of the 'battle' of emos against punks in 2007 took place at the Glorieta de Insurgentes, where an emo demonstration ended in confrontations with punks. The confrontation was contained by the authorities and the intervention of a group of hare krishnas. This incident is still remembered as a significant moment for urban subcultures in Mexico City.
