Last Saturday, the collective Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco reported the discovery of clandestine graves at the Izaguirre estate in Teuchitlán, Jalisco. Three crematoriums with cremated bones were found, as well as personal items such as backpacks, wallets, documents, and keychains that could belong to missing persons.
The collective reported that the site operated as a training camp for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Images shared on social media show dozens of items found, including photographs, books, and documents belonging to the alleged missing persons.
In light of the discovery, the families of the missing have called for a vigil in the Zócalo of Mexico City on March 15. The Jalisco Attorney General's Office has been informed about the discovery, and its intervention is awaited to determine what will happen to the belongings found.
According to data from the Government of Jalisco, this Mexican state records more than 15,000 cases of missing persons. Last January, a camp was found in Teuchitlán where 38 people were being held by CJNG hitmen. The violence in Jalisco has raised concerns and mobilized organizations and families of victims seeking justice.
