On the afternoon of Monday, March 17, a severe accident was recorded between a public transport unit and a private pickup truck in front of the Legislative Palace of the Congress of Mexico City (CDMX), located in the Centro neighborhood, Cuauhtémoc mayoralty. The collision took place at the intersection of Allende and Donceles streets, which caused part of the entrance to the legislative venue to be obstructed.
The public transport unit, belonging to Route 1, ended up on the stairs of the main access to Congress, very close to the entrance of the building on Donceles street. Meanwhile, the involved private pickup truck collided with a pole on Allende street, right at the intersection with Donceles. Despite the dramatic nature of the accident, authorities have not reported any injuries as a result of the crash so far.
Images and videos of the incident have circulated on social media following the moment of impact. Although traffic on Allende and Donceles streets was temporarily interrupted, the vehicles were removed, and traffic was restored to normal shortly afterward. Authorities will continue investigating the causes of the crash to determine responsibilities.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to carry out the removal of both vehicles. The Road Orientation Center (OVIAL) of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) recommended Republic of Peru street as an alternative route while cleanup operations were underway in the area.
