The Citizen Security Secretariat of Mexico City (SSC) has issued an alert about a growing modus operandi involving "fake delivery drivers." These criminals, often on motorcycles, pose as food or product deliverers but are actually seeking to enter homes to steal valuable items.
According to the official statement, these criminals ring the doorbell, pretending to be friendly delivery drivers, and wait for the residents' reaction. If they receive no answer or find the door ajar, they force their way in with accomplices, and the robbery takes place in a matter of seconds.
If you are not expecting a delivery, do not open the door. Noise and lighting can also deter a robbery attempt: "Make noise or turn on the lights, your presence will scare them away," added the capital's police.
To enhance security, the agency advises strengthening locks, doors, bars, and windows, even when you are at home.
Additionally, it has invited neighbors to remain alert and to share information about suspicious individuals in neighborhood groups. Upon detecting an attempt at deception or robbery, the SSC recommends immediately calling 911 for timely assistance, as well as using the "Mi Policía" app and contacting the corresponding sector chief.
Before opening, use the peephole or cameras to verify the delivery person's identity. It also recommended requesting official identification and the order number to confirm the delivery.
