An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck Mexico on Friday, according to the National Seismological Service. The tremor was felt by residents of Mexico City, forcing President Claudia Sheinbaum to suspend her daily press conference. The earthquake's epicenter was off the coast of the southern state of Guerrero in the Pacific, but its effects were detected in several cities across the country, including the capital. No material damage or human losses have been reported yet. The SSN classified the quake as 'severe' and warned that monitoring continues in the areas where it was felt. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated during her morning press conference that she spoke with the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado, 'and they are convening the Civil Protection Council, and so far it seems there are no serious damages.' The head of state specified that in the case of Mexico City, after the first helicopter overflights as a protocol, 'it is also reported that there are no damages.' Meanwhile, the governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle, reported on her social networks that the seismic movement was strongly felt in several areas of Veracruz and that the state Civil Protection is assessing the territory. While the state Civil Protection coordination specified that the earthquake was felt in the regions of Tres Valles, Córdoba, Los Tuxtlas, Xalapa, Orizaba, Huatusco, and Coatzacoalcos. 'At the moment, there are no reports of damage to strategic infrastructure, and task forces continue to carry out verification tours in a coordinated manner,' it was noted.
