This Monday, blockages and traffic disruptions were recorded at key points in Mexico City, particularly at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Insurgentes Avenue, due to protests led by retirees and pensioners from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), who are denouncing non-payment of pensions. Protesters advanced along Insurgentes since noon, causing interruptions in traffic and public transport service. According to official reports, the contingent plans to head towards the San Lázaro Metro station with the intention of moving their protest to the Chamber of Deputies. The Citizen Security Secretariat implemented traffic cuts at various points to mitigate the traffic impact. In this context, the Traffic Orientation Center (OVIAL) reported through its social media: “Traffic Alert | Protesters are blocking the circulation of Insurgentes Sur and both directions of Paseo de la Reforma.” Later, the agency reported that service began to normalize, although delays persisted. It is expected that protesters will take the Metro to reach the Chamber of Deputies, so complications are expected on the streets adjacent to the Historic Center and in the passage of the Collective Transport System trains. Line 1 presented partial suspension of service at stations such as Reforma and Hamburg, as well as widespread delays.
