Mexico City Residents Report Loud Sky Boom

Residents of southern Mexico City reported a loud boom from the sky on Thursday afternoon. This unusually powerful and prolonged sound caused surprise, concern, and much speculation among residents in the Tlalpan, Coyoacán, and nearby areas such as Acoxpa and Perisur. The sound was so intense that it startled people, drivers, and even pets. The first reactions spread quickly on social media, where users tried to explain what happened. In some cases, the aircraft were not visible due to the angle or distance, but in recordings from other areas, such as Iztapalapa, planes were clearly seen in flight. According to flight tracking data, such as that shown on the Flightradar24 platform, a Mexican Air Force Beechcraft T-6C Texan II aircraft was in operation at that time. The data showed an irregular trajectory over the eastern and southern parts of the capital, including areas near Ixtapaluca and Chalco. One of the most mentioned hypotheses is that it was due to aerial maneuvers or training exercises. Some users even suggested rehearsals for the World Cup, but to date, there is no official information confirming the specific reason for the flyover. All testimonies agreed on the intensity of the sound.
