Protest in Mexico City Against Stadium Construction

A group of approximately 100 people blocked the central lanes of Periférico Sur, at the height of Calle Zapote, in Mexico City, to protest construction projects in the Tlalpan-Coyoacán area. According to reports, the protesters, members of the Neighborhood Assembly against mega-construction, had previously gathered near the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH), from where they began the mobilization. The protest, dubbed a 'mega-reta' by the organizers, aims to express their rejection of the inauguration of the so-called 'Banorte' stadium in the capital. The blockade is affecting circulation in the eastbound direction, causing traffic complications on one of the city's main axes. Metropolitan Police personnel are at the site, maintaining dialogue and accompanying the protesters to avoid confrontations and restore mobility. So far, no arrests or major incidents have been reported.
