Massive Protests Scheduled in Mexico City

On March 31st, Mexico City will see multiple large-scale marches, including one by the transgender community and former police officers. Authorities warn of potential traffic disruptions in the city center and recommend using alternative routes.

Massive Protests Scheduled in Mexico City

According to the agenda of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), at least four marches are expected that could cause traffic disruptions, mainly in the Cuauhtémoc borough. Among the most relevant mobilizations, marches stand out within the framework of the International Transgender Visibility Day, as well as protests by former workers, police officers, and social collectives demanding attention to various demands. The transgender community leads the mobilizations. Two of the largest marches will be led by transgender community collectives. The National Coalition of Trans Women of Mexico will depart at 2:00 PM from the Monument to the Revolution towards the capital's Zócalo, aiming to demand public policies that guarantee equality, respect, and recognition of rights. Later, at 3:00 PM, the collective 'Libres y Combativas MX' will begin another march from the Zócalo towards Plaza Tlaxcoaque and the Chabacano Metro station. At 10:00 AM, former workers of the defunct Route 100 will gather at the Hemiciclo a Juárez to demand the payment of pending settlements, while at 11:00 AM, active elements, retired, and pensioned police officers will meet at Plaza de la Ciudadela to protest against alleged breaches in salary increases. Authorities do not rule out that some of these gatherings could lead to marches or blockades, which could increase disruptions on key city center roadways. Possible traffic disruptions. Due to the concentration of mobilizations at points such as the Zócalo, the Monument to the Revolution, the Hemiciclo a Juárez, and Plaza de la Ciudadela, slow traffic and intermittent closures are expected on main avenues like Paseo de la Reforma, Eje Central, Avenida Juárez, and 20 de Noviembre. In this scenario, capital authorities recommend that citizens take precautions, anticipate their trips, and consider alternative routes to avoid delays during the day. Mexico City will experience a day marked by social mobilizations on March 31st, with the city's historic center as the main gathering point. Among their main demands is the federal criminalization of transfeminicide and the approval of a Comprehensive Trans Law. Labor and social demands are also added. The day also includes protests of a labor nature.
