In parallel, the Ministry of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection reported intensification of rains in various boroughs.

The rains recorded this afternoon, April 7, in Mexico City caused point disruptions at the Benito Juárez International Airport (AICM), where the entry of rainwater was reported in an area of Terminal 1.

The incident occurs amid a modernization process of the airport, which includes interventions in key infrastructure such as roofs.

Rains affect AICM renovations

According to a statement issued by the AICM on social networks, “due to the moderate rain that was recorded in the northeast area of Mexico City, there was an entry of rainwater into the national arrivals area of Terminal 1”.

The incident occurred specifically in a roof that is currently being intervened by the renovation.

The airport specified that “these facts did not interrupt the continuity of operations and services in the terminals,” and added that “to date, there is no report of major damage.”

According to the weather radar, precipitation with possible hail was recorded in areas such as Gustavo A. Madero, Miguel Hidalgo and Venustiano Carranza, as well as downpours in Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez and Coyoacán.

Flooding was also reported in Álvaro Obregón and La Magdalena Contreras.

The authorities expect the conditions to continue, so they recommended staying attentive to official alerts.
