Driving Restrictions in Mexico City

The "Hoy No Circula" program restricts vehicle circulation in Mexico City. This Saturday, April 11, vehicles with specific holograms and license plates are banned. Learn the rules and exceptions.

Driving Restrictions in Mexico City

In Mexico City and its metropolitan area, the "Hoy No Circula" (Today You Don't Drive) program is in effect to reduce air pollution. The restriction is in force from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The only exceptions are vehicles with holograms 00 and 0, which are allowed on the road every day. The program operates based on the color of the sticker on the windshield and the last digit of the license plate. When ozone levels exceed 150 points, a "Doble Hoy No Circula" is automatically activated, doubling the number of vehicles that must remain off the road, including some with hologram 0. This restriction covers the 16 boroughs of Mexico City and 18 neighboring municipalities in the State of Mexico, including Atizapán de Zaragoza, Coacalco, Cuautitlán, Chalco, Ecatepec, Huixquilucan, Naucalpan de Juárez, and others. Violating the rules can result in fines. For owners of electric scooters and bicycles, there is also some bad news: they now need to have license plates to circulate in the city. If you have plans for the day, the Mexico City government has opened free public pools. When using the Metro, please be aware that Line 2 is under construction, and a bus service (RTP) is available for several stations. This Saturday, April 11, vehicles with hologram 1 and even-numbered plates (2, 4, 6, 8, 0) are banned, as well as all vehicles with hologram 2 and foreign vehicles with similar characteristics. At the end of the week, on Mondays, vehicles with a yellow sticker and numbers 5 or 6 are restricted. On Tuesdays, it's for pink stickers with numbers 7, 8; on Wednesdays, for red stickers with 3, 4; on Thursdays, for green stickers with 1, 2. On Fridays, vehicles with a blue sticker and numbers 9 or 0 must stay off the road. On Sundays, all vehicles can circulate freely unless an extraordinary environmental contingency is declared.
