Mexico City: Day of Mass Protests

Mexico City faces a day of high social mobilization this Tuesday, April 15th, with at least 14 planned gatherings that could impact traffic, especially in the central area. According to the Citizen Security Secretariat's (SSC) schedule, protests will begin early and last much of the day, with possible blockades and traffic disruptions in boroughs like Cuauhtémoc, Coyoacán, Venustiano Carranza, and Miguel Hidalgo. One of the most significant movements will be the rally called by the Independent National Unity in Resistance in front of the Ministry of the Interior, where they will demand urgent attention to the disappearance crisis in Mexico under the slogan "They are missing us!". In parallel, the National Front for the 40-Hour Work Week will march to the Chamber of Deputies to reject workdays of up to 12 hours and demand two days off per week. Also prominent are the mobilizations of collectives searching for missing persons, who will depart from the Chabacano Metro station towards the south of the city to continue fieldwork. Throughout the day, other groups will hold protests and activities at various points. The platform "4:20" will carry out cultural events and informational tables to demand the regulation of cannabis consumption, while the collective "Hijas de la Cannabis" will hold a day of social support. In the judicial sphere, people with disabilities will go to the Supreme Court to demand the enforcement of their rights, while unions and cultural sector workers will protest labor violations. Likewise, residents of the Miguel Hidalgo borough will take actions to defend Lira Park, denouncing the alleged privatization of the public space. Capital authorities do not rule out intermittent blockades and recommend that the population take precautions, use alternative routes, and stay informed through official channels to avoid setbacks during this day.
