Four young people were rescued by elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City after having an accident while climbing the 'Pico del Águila' in the Tlalpan borough and falling into a crevice from which they could not escape. Paramedics from the Rescue and Medical Emergencies Squadron (ERUM), officers from the 'Fox' Task Force, and Civil Protection personnel carried out the rescue of the young individuals, two aged 21, one aged 22, and another aged 23.
The rescue began after receiving a report about the disappearance of the four people at the top of the hill, located at kilometer 15+500 of the Picacho Ajusco Circuit, in the Santo Tomás Ajusco neighborhood. After confirming the situation, a search plan was implemented via four routes due to the difficulty of the terrain and the weather, which led to the location of the young people.
In an interview with a man in charge of the area where they were, it was learned that the missing individuals communicated by phone stating that they had gotten lost and had fallen into a crevice from which they could not exit. Using alpine rescue techniques and tactics, SSC personnel descended to the location where the young people were and rescued them using ropes for vertical work.
Once rescued, the young people were diagnosed as clinically stable by ERUM paramedics and, in the company of their family members, left on their own to a safe location. The SSC emphasized the training of its Metropolitan Police personnel and ERUM to handle emergencies involving the search and location of missing persons in difficult-to-access areas, as in this case.
