Mega Offering of the Day of the Dead 2023

The mega altar of the Day of the Dead in the Zócalo of Mexico City is one of the most iconic and anticipated events of the year, celebrating the rich Mexican tradition of honoring the faithful departed. Organized by the Government of Mexico City, this year's altar, titled "Procession," will take place from October 30 to November 3.

This impressive cultural spectacle will stand out for its magnitude and beauty, with an altar that will reach 17 meters in height. Additionally, it will feature a water mirror of over 2,000 square meters, adorned with 21 papier-mâché figures ranging from six to ten meters tall.

The mega altar is a tribute to Mexican tradition and a celebration of life and death that attracts thousands of visitors each year. In 2023, over a million people visited the altar, highlighting the importance of this event for both locals and national and international tourists.

The Zócalo Altar will also be framed by the Day of the Dead lighting that will decorate the surrounding buildings, creating a festive and memorable atmosphere for all attendees. Don't miss the chance to experience this unique cultural event in the Zócalo of Mexico City.

This project has been designed by the Xilbalbá art workshop, one of the most recognized groups of papier-mâché artists in the country. The tradition of setting up the mega altar in the Zócalo began in 2005 and has since become one of the main attractions of CDMX during the Day of the Dead celebrations. These sculptures will be distributed throughout the Zócalo square, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere.

Among the attractions of the altar are two trajineras and a monumental chinampa, as well as a cempasúchil garden made up of 10,000 plants cultivated by local producers from Xochimilco.
