Mexico City will celebrate the Mega Catrina Parade 2024 next Sunday, October 27, as part of the Day of the Dead festivities. The event, which will begin at 6:30 PM, will be free and the meeting point will be the Angel of Independence. From there, the contingents will parade along Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez, and a stretch of Avenida 5 de Mayo, ultimately arriving at the Zócalo.
Authorities in Mexico City shared details of this activity through social media, which annually attracts a large number of people to the main streets of the capital to observe the colorful skulls, little devils, and witches that illuminate the city's main avenue.
The creator and producer of the Mega Catrina Parade, Jessica Esquivias Rodríguez, highlighted that this edition will feature 13,600 participants of all ages from various parts of the country, such as Oaxaca and the State of Mexico. She also emphasized the growth that the Mega Parade has experienced year after year, as well as the importance of female participation in the event.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area due to traffic closures that will be implemented along the parade route. Additionally, Line 7 of the Metrobús, which runs from Indios Verdes to Campo Marte, will have temporary interruptions at stations along Paseo de la Reforma.
For those needing to move around the area, alternative routes such as Circuito Interior, Eje 1 Norte, Eje 1 Oriente, Avenida Chapultepec, José Ma. Izazaga, and Fray Servando Teresa de Mier are suggested. It is recommended to take precautions and anticipate travel times due to the event and the influx of visitors for the Day of the Dead in Mexico City.
