
The 'Paneada of the century of Santa Clara' is an annual event in Mexico City where experts and enthusiasts taste pan de muerto to choose the best. In the 2024 edition, 21 bakeries presented their proposals.
The Elizondo bakery, located on Avenida Ejército Nacional Mexicano, stood out with its pan de muerto made with brioche-like dough, notable for its fluffy texture and golden crust. With five branches in different areas of the city, it is a good option to enjoy this delicious traditional bread.
Bakery Mallorca, with two branches, presented a simple pan de muerto made only with butter and sugar, achieving second place in the competition. Additionally, they offer varieties filled with chocolate with cinnamon, cream cheese, guava compote, and classic whipped cream.
Another surprise was the pan de muerto from Palacio de Hierro, known for its traditional flavor that enhances the citrus notes of the dough. With multiple branches in the capital, it is a good option to enjoy this delicacy.
In the category of best filled pan de muerto, Maison Kayser stood out with its French cream filling, balancing sweetness while highlighting the orange notes. Garabatos won in the category of 'most original pan de muerto' with its filling of "house cream," located at Campos Elíseos number 204, in Polanco.
Bakery Alcazar, known for its marzipan cream filling, and Tere Cazola with ball cheese cream filling, were other notable participants. Sofitel presented a croissant inspired by pan de muerto, while Amado surprised with its guava cream filling and citrus notes in an online setting.
The competition showcased a variety of creative and delicious options with fillings such as pumpkin cream, marzipan whipped cream, and ball cheese. Tradition and innovation merged to offer pan de muerto lovers unique experiences.
