
Mexico City expects low temperatures for the morning of Thursday, January 23, due to the arrival of cold front 24, which has led authorities to activate a double alert for frost in seven municipalities of the capital. According to the Risk Management and Civil Protection Secretariat of Mexico City, temperatures of up to one degree are expected between the early hours of Wednesday and the first hours of Thursday. The cold front has caused a drop in temperatures at the beginning of this week and it is expected that the Arctic air mass will maintain the cold wave in the north and northeast of the country.
Civil Protection detailed the municipalities of CDMX that will experience frost this Thursday. In the orange alert, with temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, are Milpa Alta and Tlalpan. On the other hand, in the yellow alert, with temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, are Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Tláhuac, and Xochimilco.
The SGIRPC shared recommendations for citizens, such as consuming fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, dressing appropriately, and avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent respiratory illnesses. It is also advised to see a doctor if flu symptoms appear. The possibility of wind gusts that could cause the fall of trees and advertising signs was mentioned.
Temperatures are expected to drop significantly in different states of the country. Mountainous areas of Sonora, Chihuahua, and Durango will have lows of -10 to -5 degrees Celsius with frost. Other states such as Baja California, Coahuila, Nuevo León, among others, will have minimum temperatures of -5 to 0 degrees Celsius with frost for the early hours of Thursday.
Conagua indicated that a cold to very cold environment will prevail over several states of Mexico. Rain is expected in at least 10 states: Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Yucatán, Tamaulipas, and Puebla. These rains may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
