New Restrictions for Vehicles in Mexico City

Starting from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, vehicles with green stickers ending in 1 or 2 are not allowed to circulate in Mexico City. This law is part of the 'Hoy no Circula' program aimed at reducing pollution.

New Restrictions for Vehicles in Mexico City

In Mexico City, drivers of vehicles with a green sticker and whose license plates end in the numbers 1 or 2 have restrictions under the Hoy no Circula program. These measures prohibit them from driving from 05:00 to 22:00 hours. These restrictions also apply in various municipalities of the State of Mexico that are part of the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico.

For vehicles with a hologram 2, they must refrain from driving every Saturday during the same hours. In the case of foreign vehicles with foreign plates, they are prohibited from driving on Saturdays from 05:00 to 22:00 hours. Additionally, from Monday to Friday from 5:00 to 11:00 hours, the last number of their license plate will determine the day they cannot drive during the week.

Fines for not respecting these restrictions range from 20, 25, and 30 times the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), which is equivalent to 1,171, 2,714, and up to 3,257 pesos respectively. If violated, the vehicle will be taken to the impound lot with an additional cost depending on the towing capacity of the unit.

The Hoy no Circula program extends to various municipalities of the State of Mexico, as well as to all boroughs of Mexico City. However, vehicles with stickers 0 and 00 are exempt from these restrictions. There are also exceptions for various types of vehicles and situations such as agricultural tractors, medical emergencies, or school units, among other specific cases.

The program also applies to cars with hologram 1, which have their own restrictions. If the plate ends in even numbers such as 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8, they cannot circulate on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. In contrast, if the plate ends in odd numbers such as 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, they must stop their circulation on the first and third Saturday.
