Trans Rights Collective Celebrates 10 Years of Support

The Trans Collective for Freedom commemorates its tenth anniversary with activities in prisons in Mexico City, supporting the LGBT+ community and trans sex workers.

The Trans Collective for the Freedom to Be and Decide A.C. is celebrating its tenth anniversary of dedicated work for the well-being of LGBT+ individuals in prisons in Mexico City and in support of transgender sex workers. Andrea Luna, representative of the Collective, emphasized their commitment to carrying out activities throughout the year, ranging from providing food in community kitchens to delivering meals and dinners in penitentiary centers at specific times.

The group makes frequent visits to prisons and detention centers with the goal of improving the quality of life for transgender Mexican individuals, who often face stigma, violence, and discrimination in various aspects of their lives. According to the National Survey on Sexual Diversity and Gender Identity (ENDISEG) of 2021, 5.1% of the Mexican population identifies as part of the LGBTI+ community, with 316,258 transgender individuals registered.

Regarding year-end activities, these begin at the end of November, distributing hot meals and dinners to transgender sex workers in eleven municipalities of CDMX, along with the delivery of blankets and condoms. This work extends until the end of January. Andrea Luna invited everyone to join this cause and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and establishing new alliances with political, legislative, and private sector actors to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion for all community groups.
