Marianne Gonzaga was arrested after stabbing Valeria Gilabert 14 times in a housing unit in Jardines de Coyoacán, Mexico City (CDMX). The 17-year-old young influencer was taken to the Public Ministry accused of aggravated injuries, and preventive detention measures were ordered to prevent her from fleeing.
The victim's lawyer, Ayrton Marín Becerril, recounted that Valeria was in an apartment with a man identified as José Said, possibly her boyfriend, and two other people whose identities are unknown. When Gilabert and Said's companions left the place, Marianne Gonzaga entered the scene and began the attack. It is presumed that there was a prior discussion that triggered the knife aggression.
Valeria Gilabert suffered 14 stab wounds to her neck, chest, and torso, and is currently in critical condition fighting for her life at Hospital Médica Sur Tlalpan in CDMX. The lawyer mentioned that there were five people in the apartment, including Valeria and Marianne. For now, only Gonzaga is detained.
Marianne Gonzaga's legal situation, being a minor, will be governed by the Juvenile Criminal Justice System. According to the National Law of the Comprehensive Criminal Justice System for Adolescents, the maximum sentence for minors is 5 years of incarceration. The lawyer stated that if found guilty of aggravated injuries, she could be placed in a social rehabilitation center, but Mexican law protects minors by limiting their deprivation of liberty to 5 years.
