In Mexico City, at the intersection of Avenida de los Insurgentes and Félix Cuevas, members of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC CDMX) shot dead a suspected robber during a preventive patrol. According to official reports, the agents witnessed a man and a woman struggling, at which point the woman asked for help.
Upon noticing the presence of the police, the suspect, who was armed, verbally threatened them and pointed the firearm at them, prompting one of the agents to fire in order to protect their lives, resulting in the assailant's death. Following the incident, a homemade submachine gun was confiscated.
After thwarting the robbery attempt, a shootout occurred, and once the scene was secured, assistance was provided to the victim, a 40-year-old woman with a laceration on her head caused by glass, who was treated at the scene without the need for hospitalization. The victim was advised to file a formal complaint with the authorities.
The Public Ministry was informed about the incident and the corresponding forensic services were initiated. The officers involved reported to the authorities to give testimony, and the General Directorate of Internal Affairs will assist in the investigations. Pablo Vázquez Camacho, head of the SSC CDMX, announced that they will work together with the prosecutor's office to clarify the events.
Videos circulated on social media show the security agents maneuvering on the main roads, aiming at the assailant just meters away from the Insurgentes Sur subway station of Line 12.
