A 27-year-old young cyclist died in a tragic accident in Mexico City, causing outrage among cycling groups and citizens. They demand the authorities urgently implement measures to prevent more tragedies and ensure greater road safety in the area.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Avenida del Imán and Delfín Madrigal, in the Pedregal de Carrasco neighborhood. The cyclist was hit by a motorist who fled the scene but was apprehended by the authorities and taken to the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine his legal situation. Relatives of the victim arrived at the scene to identify the body.
Neighbors and cyclists reported the lack of adequate road infrastructure in the area, pointing out the absence of exclusive lanes and proper signage as key factors in this and other accidents at the same crossing. The combination of this lack of infrastructure and the recklessness of some drivers turns the streets into a place of constant risk for those who use bicycles as a means of transportation.
According to police reports, the young man was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a white vehicle driven by a 39-year-old man. Despite the efforts of Civil Protection paramedics, the victim unfortunately lost his life at the accident site. Elements of the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat responded to the site after the alert from the South Command and Control Center (C2).
