Environmental Contingency Declared in Mexico City

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis activated the atmospheric environmental contingency for ozone in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico on Wednesday, February 26. According to the issued statement, maximum ozone concentrations of 157 parts per billion were recorded at the Tlalnepantla (TLA) station, located in the municipality of Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico.

Due to these unfavorable environmental conditions, the double Hoy No Circula program was implemented for motorists. The circulation restrictions, in effect on Thursday, February 27 from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, apply to various types of vehicles. These include private vehicles with verification hologram 2, those with verification hologram 1 and the last numeric digit 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 0, as well as vehicles with hologram 00 and 0, green sticker, and license plates ending in 1 and 2.

Additionally, circulation is limited for 50% of L.P. gas distribution units with stationary tanks without a dry disconnect valve, whose plate ending is EVEN. On the other hand, local or federal freight vehicles will not be allowed to circulate between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, except for those registered in the Self-Regulation Program of Mexico City or the State of Mexico.

Furthermore, CAMe specified the vehicles exempt from these restrictions. These include electric and hybrid cars, those with ecological plates or exempt type holograms, as well as vehicles with valid hologram “00” or “0,” regardless of the sticker color and plate endings 1 and 2. Taxis are allowed to circulate from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM on days with Hoy No Circula restrictions to support the mobility of the population.

Additionally, vehicles designated for emergency services, school transportation, funeral services, waste and hazardous materials transportation with the corresponding authorization, among others, are allowed to circulate.
