Environmental Contingency Continues in Mexico City

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis confirmed that the environmental contingency will be extended at least until Wednesday, February 26. Due to high solar radiation and low wind gusts, a concentration of ozone particles reached a maximum of 157 ppb at the Tlalnepantla station, prompting the activation of the contingency. Therefore, on Thursday, February 27, the Double Today No Drive program will be implemented starting at 5:00 AM to reduce pollutant emissions.

According to authorities, if temperatures drop overnight, air quality may improve and the contingency may be lifted this Thursday. It is advised to keep an eye on reports from the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis to confirm if car circulation is allowed.

The official report confirming whether the contingency remains or is suspended will be provided on Thursday, February 27 at 10:00 AM. If the contingency is lifted, cars can be used from that moment. Other times when a suspension could be reported are at 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 8:00 PM.

In the event that the contingency persists on Thursday, vehicle circulation will be permitted between 10:00 PM that day and 5:00 AM on Friday, February 28. It is important to remember that the rules of the Double Today No Drive program change depending on whether the contingency is activated or suspended.

Vehicles subject to the Double Today No Drive in Mexico City and the State of Mexico are those with verification hologram 2, verification hologram 1 with certain numerical digits and other particular cases. Meanwhile, those that are exempt include electric and hybrid cars, private use vehicles with a valid "00" or "0" hologram, and vehicles designated for emergencies, among others.

Therefore, it is crucial to stay informed about updates regarding the environmental contingency to know if car circulation is allowed and what the current restrictions are to avoid fines or complications.
