After receiving a report of gunfire in a gym in the Doctores neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc borough in Mexico City, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) immediately responded. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a couple with bloodstains on their bodies and requested medical assistance. A 28-year-old man was taken to a hospital with a head injury.
During the intervention, authorities arrested a 19-year-old young man, the alleged shooter. After a preventive inspection, he was found in possession of a short firearm with a silencer, 15 usable cartridges, a black helmet, and a gray motorcycle jacket with green details. The detainee, who claimed to be a Canadian citizen, was informed of his rights and handed over to the Public Ministry to determine his legal status.
At the scene, a 23-year-old woman of Venezuelan nationality was also treated, who had an abrasion injury on her right pelvic member and a cut wound on her right hand. Additionally, it was discovered that the alleged assailant fled the gym on a black and brown motorcycle, leaving it on a neighboring street and continuing his escape on foot before boarding a taxi on Venustiano Carranza Avenue.
The area’s surveillance cameras captured the moment the suspect left the establishment and fled. Thanks to the virtual perimeter established by the monitoring team, the taxi was located in the vicinity of the Roma Norte neighborhood, where it is presumed that the assailant may have gotten into another vehicle.
Authorities will continue investigating this armed incident at the gym while determining the detained individual's responsibility concerning the gunfire and the injuries suffered by the couple.
