Air Quality Emergency Lifted in Mexico City

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (Came) announced the update on climatic conditions in the Valley of Mexico, which has allowed the lifting of the atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone. This measure takes effect from 6:00 PM on Thursday, meaning that on Friday, February 28, the double 'Hoy no Circula' will not apply.

The hourly ozone concentrations have been below the thresholds established in the Programs to Prevent and Respond to Atmospheric Environmental Contingencies in the ZMVM, leading to the conclusion of the contingency. According to the official statement, an increase in humidity is expected in the Valley of Mexico on Friday, February 28, with a clear to partly cloudy sky and more cloudiness after noon, favoring ventilation and the dispersion of pollutants.

Came, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as the environmental authorities of Mexico City and the State of Mexico, will continue to monitor the evolution of air quality and meteorological conditions. The population is thanked for following the recommendations to protect health and reduce emissions.

In summary, the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) reported the suspension of the environmental contingency in the Valley of Mexico due to the improvement in air quality. Ozone concentrations have been below the established limits, allowing the contingency to be declared concluded. Favorable meteorological conditions are expected to facilitate the dispersion of pollutants, and the population is urged to continue following recommendations to protect health and reduce emissions.
