On the afternoon of Thursday, February 27, a couple of health workers was shot on Insurgentes Avenue, near the intersection with Ricardo Flores Magón in Tlatelolco, Cuauhtémoc Borough. Reports indicate that the couple was attacked by gunfire while walking in the area, with the assailants shooting from a car before fleeing. Authorities from Mexico City arrived at the scene immediately and confirmed the couple's death, cordoning off the area. The victims, a woman around 30 years old and a man 40, lost their lives at the scene and have been identified as employees of a public health institution.
Surveillance camera footage is being reviewed to identify the attackers and determine if the attack was planned by a criminal group. According to reports from Foro TV, the victims were carrying a suitcase and were exiting a parking lot at the time of the attack. For now, a robbery attempt is ruled out, and it is considered that the possible motive was a direct attack. More details are expected in the coming hours.
On the other hand, in a violent incident in Álvaro Obregón, a 24-year-old man lost his life after being attacked with a metal rod in the Lomas de los Cedros neighborhood following a quarrel between neighbors over a traffic incident. After the attack, the young man was placed into a vehicle by his family and escorted by the auxiliary police of the Citizen Security Secretariat. Despite efforts, the victim no longer showed vital signs when receiving emergency medical attention from ERUM at Las Torres and Los Tanques.
The driver who transported the young man provided authorities with a description of the assailant, which led to his arrest on the streets of Pino and Azucenas in Mexico City. The assailant, a 50-year-old man, was involved in a traffic altercation with the victim, during which he took a metal rod and attacked him, subsequently triggering the tragic death of the 24-year-old man. The detained individual was taken to the relevant authorities for investigations to clarify his alleged participation in the fatal incident.
