The Cyber Police of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City has reported an increase in cases of digital violence. This rise has been detected after conducting cyber patrols in response to the growth of social media and widespread access to the Internet. The SSC warns that digital violence affects the emotional, psychological, and even physical well-being of individuals, becoming a concerning form of aggression in the virtual environment.
Authorities emphasize the importance of taking preventive measures and reporting any cases of online violence. It is crucial to raise awareness in society about the different types of digital violence that can affect people of all ages, from cyberbullying to the non-consensual distribution of intimate content, with serious consequences for victims.
Experts in the field warn about three main forms of digital violence: cyberbullying, threats, and sextortion. Cyberbullying involves harassing, stalking, or intimidating through the internet, threats aim to obtain intimate material from the victim through blackmail, and sextortion is based on deceiving the victim to obtain confidential information that can be used against them.
To prevent digital violence, it is advised to securely configure online accounts, control the personal information shared, reflect on the content published, not to accept requests from unknown individuals, block aggressors in case of intimidation, and report any situation to the competent authorities or digital platforms.
Preventing digital violence requires both individual security measures and collective awareness to educate people about the risks in the digital environment. The Cyber Police of the SSC provides advice and assistance to those in need, reminding that the collaboration of citizens is essential in the fight against this type of online violence.
