The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) has activated Phase 1 of the atmospheric environmental contingency for ozone in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. According to the report, at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, a maximum ozone concentration of 155 ppb was recorded at the Gustavo A. Madero (GAM) station in Mexico City.
According to CAMe, after 2:00 PM, atmospheric stability increased in the ZMVM, generating adverse conditions for the dispersion of ozone precursor pollutants. The intense solar radiation in the valley has driven the formation of ozone from accumulated pollutants, compounded by the fact that the wind has remained weak throughout the day.
It is estimated that meteorological conditions will continue to hinder the dispersion of pollutants in the coming hours. In light of this situation, a series of recommendations have been given to the population, such as avoiding outdoor activities between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM, suspending public events during that time, postponing outdoor activities, and refraining from smoking, especially in enclosed spaces.
Regarding circulation restrictions, tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, private vehicles with verification hologram 2, 1 (with last numeric digit 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9), 0, and 00 (red sticker, with license plate ending in 3 and 4) must be suspended. Additionally, the circulation of 50% of LP gas distribution units without a dry disconnect valve will be restricted, and the circulation of cargo vehicles will be limited between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, with exceptions for those in the Self-Regulation Program of CDMX or the State of Mexico, among other provisions. Taxis with certain holograms will also have hourly restrictions.
