Environmental Contingency in Mexico City

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (Came) activated the environmental contingency on Wednesday afternoon due to the accumulation of ozone in the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico. The measure will remain in effect for Thursday, April 24. In a statement, the application of phase 1 of the environmental contingency was reaffirmed with the aim of reducing the population's exposure to contaminated air and decreasing the risk of health impacts.

According to the Atmospheric Monitoring System of Mexico City, a high-pressure system is expected over the center of the country, causing clear skies and intense solar radiation for most of the day. Weak winds will contribute to maintaining air quality for ozone at levels ranging from Bad to Very Bad.

Regarding restrictions for Thursday, April 24, vehicles that must suspend their circulation from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM are private vehicles with verification hologram 2, 1 (with last numeric digit 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9), 0, and 00 (with green sticker and plate ending in 1 and 2). The same restriction applies to vehicles without a verification hologram, L.P. gas distribution units, and local or federal cargo vehicles, with exceptions.

Taxis with verification holograms “00,” “0,” “1,” or “2” must also stop circulating according to the indicated provisions. Came recommended avoiding outdoor exercise between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM, especially for children, seniors, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
