The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (Came) announced that the environmental contingency in the Valley of Mexico continues due to the accumulation of ozone. The measure started at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23, and has been active since then.
In a statement, Came specified that Phase I of the atmospheric environmental contingency for ozone remains in effect with the aim of protecting the population from exposure to contaminated air and reducing health risks, as well as decreasing pollutant emissions.
Meteorological data indicate that the influence of a high-pressure system that has been affecting the central area of the country for four days persists, generating moderate to strong atmospheric stability, weak wind, and intense solar radiation in the Valley of Mexico, which promotes the formation and accumulation of ozone. Air quality is estimated to remain poor to very poor for this contaminant during Thursday afternoon.
Came, along with the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, as well as the environmental authorities of Mexico City and the State of Mexico, will be monitoring air quality and the evolution of meteorological conditions in the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico. Additionally, they will update the information at 8:00 PM or earlier if there is any change in the environmental conditions.
