The Traffic Regulations of Mexico City establishes the Hoy No Circula Program as a measure to prevent, minimize, and control the emission of pollutants, with the exception that the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis can suspend the program and apply a double Hoy No Circula.
This program aims to standardize actions to reduce pollution in the Megalopolis, Mexico City, and the State of Mexico, limiting the circulation of private vehicles regardless of the origin of the plates or registration.
Vehicles that cannot circulate on Thursdays, according to the guidelines of Hoy No Circula, are those with green stickers, plates ending in 1 and 2, and verification holograms 1 and 2. On the other hand, those that can circulate without restriction include holograms 0 and 00, electric and hybrid vehicles, cars driven by health personnel, motorcycles, and vehicles with disability plates.
The Hoy No Circula is in effect from 05:00 to 22:00 hours. Those who violate the program's rules may face fines ranging from 2,075 pesos to 3,112 pesos.
The only day on which Hoy No Circula does not apply is Sunday, being excluded from any type of restriction.
