UNAM to Hold Mega Vaccination Drive in Mexico City

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) will launch this Tuesday a mega vaccination drive open to the entire population, administering nearly 100,000 doses against influenza, COVID-19, pneumococcus, and measles, as part of the winter season. The Mega Vaccination Center will be located at Parking 3 of the UNAM Olympic Stadium and will operate until November 14, from 09:00 to 15:00. The service is free and open to both the university community and the general public. A photo ID or vaccination record will be required for children. Gustavo Adolfo Olaiz Fernández, head of the General Directorate of Health Care (DGAS), emphasized that “vaccination is for all of society” and highlighted that the initiative aims to prevent severe respiratory complications during the coldest months of the year. He recalled that with the arrival of winter, cases of respiratory illnesses increase, and immunization is the best way to prevent severe conditions. He added that although the measles outbreak detected in September has decreased, there are still population groups without coverage, so this drive will continue to administer the vaccine. Additionally, free blood glucose and blood pressure tests will be available. UNAM will also set up modules at campuses of the College of Sciences and Humanities (CCH), the National Preparatory School, and various faculties to bring health services closer to its community. Vaccinations will be carried out by over 300 specialized nurses from IMSS, ISSSTE, and Pemex, as well as DGAS interns who will direct attendees according to the required vaccine.
